I am a Brazilian legal scholar, qualified lawyer, and a PhD candidate at the Department of International Law of the University of São Paulo, Brazil. I am still a very young scholar, but I decided to create this page in order to organize my writings and to make them more easily accessible to anyone interested.

Before PhD studies, I did two Masters in Law: one at the University of São Paulo, where I studied trust networks and reputational sanctions in relation to the performance of international contracts, and another one at the University of Luxembourg, where I studied inferred discriminatory data in light of the legal remedies available under the GDPR. I have also completed a Specialization in Commercial Law at Fundação Getulio Vargas (the Specialization is a L. L. M-style course, 18 months plus a final dissertation in which I addressed the governance of alliance contracts in the field of infrastructure).

My academic and professional interests revolve around technology and its impacts on Law. From Isaac Asimov to Alastair Reynolds, I have always been fascinated by the positive and negative impacts of present and future technologies on human life.

As to my PhD studies, I am currently interested in the statute of autonomous artificial intelligence systems (“AAIS”), i. e., how Law should treat AAIS, whether by granting some sort of limited legal personality, recognizing active or passive instances of personality, conferring property to machines, establishing man-machine consortia, etc. The underlying idea of my studies is the need to protect humans; not the other way around.

In addition to artificial intelligence, my interests include data protection, general commercial law (in particular, the legal framework for investments in startups and new businesses), and public international law.

Apart from my academic and professional occupations, I started a small publisher named Litterae that focuses on literature books with legal background (such as Aeschylus’ Oresteia that features a judgment on the third book). A list of our books may be find here.

I also enjoy playing volleyball, chess, and strategic videogames.
